<aside> ‼️ If you wish to test spinning up Bedrock nodes, please do so on our live Optimism Goerli testnet which underwent a Bedrock upgrade on January 12, 2023. See our Node Operator Guide and Upgrade Guide and our Goerli testnet info

Overview

This document describes what to expect for our public migration rehearsal. It is intended for users such as infrastructure providers who operate their own nodes.

What to Expect

From a node operator perspective, the migration involves replacing the legacy system with the new one. There is no need to run legacy infrastructure to participate in the migration. At a high level, the migration will go like this:

UPDATE: Optimism has completed the migration ahead of schedule! Follow along with our progress the day-of here. Once the new Bedrock sequencer is live roughly 1 hour later, we will share:

  1. You will download the migrated data directory, and start Bedrock nodes on top of it.
  2. You will download the legacy data directory, and use it to run a historical pre-Bedrock l2geth that your Bedrock nodes will forward historical calls to.

All of this will happen on a fork of L1, whose RPC endpoint will be shared here.

Actions Prior to Migration Day

If you have not spun up a node that participates in our beta-1 network, please do so. There is very little difference between running a beta-1 node, and running a Goerli migration node.
